One of the things I liked about this day trip to Lugano was the perfect ratio of walking and relaxing. First we boarded the train and enjoyed the views of the Swiss Alps and Italian countryside. Later, we walked for about an hour around the city of Como, and then we relaxed on the boat and sailed around Lake Como for about an hour. Once we reached Lugano, we had a two-hour walk around the town and the shores of Lake Lugano. The moment I felt I had enough of walking, it was time to sit on a train and relax on the way back to Milan.
This entire day trip to Lugano was sooo chill. The group was super friendly, and the guide was both attentive and relaxed as he told us about the places we were visiting. The boat ride along the shores of Lake Como was fun. We saw luxurious mansions and villas of celebrities, but I was more impressed by the serenity of the lake and the views of the Swiss Alps. We had two hours of free time before catching the train for Lugano, and my girlfriend and I spent it sitting in a cafe by the lake. I loved Lugano's vibe. It's basically a Mediterranean city in Switzerland and it even has palm trees! It's nice and clean, as you would expect of any Swiss town, but it's also very chill.

Did you know the first Eurovision Song Contest was held in Lugano?
A day trip to Lugano is a must for every Eurovision fan, because it was the first host city of this music contest held in 1956. There were only seven participant countries, but each was allowed to submit two songs. Lugano was chosen because of its convenient location, picturesque settings, and cosmopolitan vibes. As you will see during your Milan to Lugano day trip, Lugano is a Mediterranean city surrounded by the Swiss Alps.
The winning song called "Refrain" was performed by the Swiss singer Lys Assia, and the venue of the event was Teatro Kursaal. As most Europeans did not own a TV set, it was primarily broadcast as a radio show. Thankfully, the winning song was filmed, so be sure to check it out online. During your free time in Lugano, you can choose to go visit the Teatro Kursaal, where the Eurovision Song Contest was born.
